Name: Vashatkaraha

Pronunciation:

va-sha-t-kaa-ra-ha

va (as in warn), sha (as in sharp), t (as in top), ka (as in car), ra (as in run), ha (as in hard)

Meaning:

One who is known as the giver of “six” things viz birth, existence, growth, change, downfall (decay) and death.

Notes:

Va means “this”. Shat means six. Kara means “one who is known as”. Every living being goes through six states – jaayate (is born), asti (exists), vardhate (grows), pariNamate (changes), apaksheeyate (decays), mriyate (dies). The lord alone is the one who gives these six to all beings.
