One who is greater than those (devatas) who sustain us.
The meaning of this word is deduced by splitting it into dhaatu and uttama. In our body, every organ/part is sustained and nourished by a particular devata called as Tattvabhimani Devata. These devatas are known as “dhaatrus”. Vishnu is the controller and Lord of these dhaatrus. It is because of HIS grace that the Tattvabhimani devatas are able to sustain us in the various parts of our body. Naturally, HE is much greater than the devatas. Hence, HE is dhaaturuttama.
